From Blackberry to Apple…to a 'Docomo' boy?

tata docomo alcatel one touch net

I have been thinking of buying  a new smart phone for a while now and having used both Blackberry and the I-phone, the task of finding a new smart phone [that could fulfill my definition of a smart phone] has become all the more difficult!

That is when I found about the new OneTouch Net phone from Tata DOCOMO. So here I am evaluating whether this phone fits the bill for ‘the’ smartphone for me or not!

  • DESIGN & LOOKS: The phone looks really cool [I prefer black and silver combo to white and lavender… for obvious reasonsJ]. It seems a perfect mix of the blackberry and I-phone in terms of size as well as looks. I need a phone that fits my hand and this one seems to be apt for my palm.
  • INTERFACE EXPERIENCE – Well, the screen seems to be superb in terms of both the size and display. My Iphone was about 3 inches and blackberry about 2. This phone comes with a 2.4 inch screen as well as a soft touch QWERTY pad. Superb….a sure shot PLUS for me.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA – One of the most important things that I need in my smartphone are  the updates, what my friends and colleagues are doing on their social networks, as well as gather information on the latest happenings. Yahoo Pulse, a feature that this phone comes with allows you to get all the updates real time. So whether it is facebook, twitter or flickr, everything is right in front of you…most importantly…REAL TIME!
  • STORAGE CAPACITY – This phone comes with an inbuilt 80 mb memory and an external card microSD support upto 8 gb. Well, kind of perfect for me considering my blackberry had about 2 gb of memory and my iphone had 8gb. I keep a lot of music handy with me since I listen to it whenever I’m on the move, so should this phone should help me with that.
  • MULTIMEDIA (INCLUDING MUSIC PLAYER & CAMERA) – The phone comes with a decent 2 megapixel camera [would have loved it to be 3.2 mp]. But the best thing here is that I can upload all the pics I click to Flickr right away and share them with all my friends. The music player seems to be perfect with support for MP3 as well as comes with a FM player. So I can keep my collection in the 8gb storage and enjoy high quality music all the time…Thumbs up!
  • BROWSING CAPABILITY – The phone has opera mini as its browser. I haven’t used this browser but going by a couple of friends experiences, it performs really well when it comes to mobile browsing. So fingers crossed in case I go ahead and buy this one.
  • BATTERY This is a very important feature, not only for me but for everyone I’m sure. The phone has a talk time of 9 hours, stand by time of 450 hours and music playback time of 35 hours. For me that essentially, means I can go to work, attend my calls, listen to music and come back home and sleep and go back to work next day and repeat the same ….without the worry of charging it 🙂
  • CONNECTIVITY – It’s an EDGE [class 12] and GPRS [class 12] enabled phone, so I can browse the web from anywhere….without any issues.

I managed to find this cool video of the phone being unboxed and used [a how to of sorts] and seems all the more interesting…take a look:

Considering all of the above, this powerhouse from TATA DOCOMO seems to be a sure shot winner and definitely worth a try.  Final word, I have already been an Iphone and a Blackberry boy….now I might soon be a ‘DOCOMO’ boy 🙂 and that surely seems to be exciting!

  10. The only place it lacks seems to be the camera section. I would it if it had a higher resolution camera

    • vishalgaba

I agree Shiva…this could have been a winner hands down had the camera been even 3.2 mp.

  16. Hehe, are you sure you want to change to use this Alcatel? It is not fancy and trendy after all. Why not try using Samsung Galaxy S? Well, if I were you, I will stick to either iPhone or BlackBerry. Just my 2 cents.
