Aisha is not a new story – ‘Emma’, the novel by Jane Austen, has been adapted several times in films as well as television in the past. Aisha brings alive the story in the modern day scenario based in Delhi.
The story remains the same, here’s a synopsis I picked up from imdb – Aisha is a girl with a simple problem – everyone’s business is her business. Arjun is a boy with even a simpler set of beliefs – Aisha should mind her own business. Caught in the Delhi upper class world with its own set of social rules, Aisha navigates her world with a great sense of style and even greater optimism. Caught in her web are Pinky, her best friend, the small town girl Shefali, the west Delhi boy Randhir and the hunk Dhruv. Aisha will make sure everyone dances to her tune. And all Arjun wants to do is disentangle that web and get Aisha out of an impending sticky mess. Who will succeed and who will succumb? Welcome to Aisha’s fabulous world where playing cupid is as easy as 123…if only that Arjun would stay out of her way!
Now let’s get the important question…is AISHA good…worth a watch? The answer to this unfortunately is, NO!
The movie runs at a snail’s pace (especially in the second hour) which gets irritating at times. If it is a simple story then it should be told in a simple and a short manner, why extend it by adding unwanted sequences? Another major drawback, in order to create a super stylish and hi-fi movie, the makers forgot to work on how to make the story more entertaining.
The only saving grace is Amit Trivedi’s great music [hard to single out any tracks] and some neat performances. The movie is centered around Sonam Kapoor and she performs well (although she looks really bad in some sequences and throws accent in some). Abhay Deol is great as usual although he gets limited scope.
The support cast of the movie has been chosen intelligently. Ira Dubey does brilliantly well. Amrita Puri is a good find…she is sure to get more movies after AISHA. Cyrus Sahukar plays his part to perfection.
Overall, AISHA is a disappointment and the movie might have an initial good run because of its styling and some great promotion but with word of mouth [which is negative], the film will for sure face a decline.
Rating – 2.5/5
Nice review! I so want to catch the movie this weekend. Hope I do get a chance, still. 😛
Thanks pal!
You saved me a load of money!
as i said earlier too, on FB, Aisha minus Aisha(Sonam) could have been better. Sonam sucked in Aisha. Even Debutantes Era Dubey and Amirta puri were way better than her…….
totally agree…
Thank goodness..I canceled my plan in the last minute….have heard similar negative reviews…music is really good though…I have been listening to that for the past few days..specially Lehrein and shaam song.
