Relief…is the best word that describes my feelings right now. After 2 terrifying experiences in Paathshala and Housefull, Badmaash Company has come as a savior!
Badmaash Company is a well made entertaining movie which has several enjoyable moments and keep you guessing for what’s coming next… It narrates the story of today’s youth who are looking to be rich overnight and in that hurry sometimes end up taking the wrong route…
Badmaash Company is set in the 1990s in Mumbai and is the story of four ordinary youngsters [Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang and Vir Das], who come together to start an import business of different things loved by Indians. They earned huge profits and became rich in a matter of a few months…How? They do it by finding a way to beat the customs system. As they taste their first success, they reliaze that to make a business successful, you don’t need big money. All you need is a big idea.
All is going well when one day they are forced to shut down their business. Then, they shift to US and continue playing the same games there as well. Everything is fine till the time success gets into Karan’s head and he starts believing himself as GOD. Due to differences the company collapses with the partners in crime going their individual ways until one last time when they come together to beat the system but this they stay within the legal boundaries.
The best thing about the movie is that one can identify with the mindset of the characters who aspire to successful and rich even if it takes using a few shortcuts. Parmeet Sethi makes an impressive debut as a writer – director. Every scam has been well thought out with a proper background check! The movie runs at a good pace and does not give you time or scope to think of anything else.
The music, by Pritam is foot tapping and good choreography only adds to the fun
The movie is full of some brilliant performances. Shahid Kapoor gets it right this time. After disappointing us with 2 duds, Chance Pe Dance and Paathshala he delivers a power packed performance. Anushka Sharma is a total change from here character in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi….she looks good, performs brilliantly and her chemistry with Shahid is electrifying.
Vir Das is in terrific form, he transitions from a comic scene to a serious one with ease. Post this movie, he will surely be seen a lot in future. Meiyang Chang adds a lot of ZING (his character’s name) to the movie and gels well within the group. Anupam Kher does a repeat of Wake Up Sid but is great as usual. Kiran Juneja plays here character well.
Final word – Badmaash Company entertains you the right way i.e. it does not think of audience as unintelligent people and offer senseless stuff!
My Rating – 3.5/5 ….and if you have been tortured with films like Housefull and Paathshala in the past few weeks it is 4/5
