Movie Review: Lafangey Parindey…is neither wild nor flies

There were 3 questions that crossed my mind while watching Lafangey Parindey:

  1. Is it necessary for bollywood movies to be about 2-2.5 hours long?
  2. Is it necessary for bollywood  movies to have every bit of masala and not stick to a simple plot?
  3. What is Yashraj doing? Was Chak De a fluke?

I’m disappointed with Lafangey Parindey because it is sad to see how a potentially decent movie with some good performances goes down the drain….why? just because of unnecessary masala added into it!

The movie is about a group of youngsters living in the backstreets of Mumbai. One Shot Nandu [Neil Nitin Mukesh] is a fighter by choice and knocks down his opponents blindfolded and Pinky Palkar [Deepika Padukone] works for a living but her real passion lies in dancing. A strange accident brings them together and changes their lives forever.

The movie starts on the right note and is decently paced till intermission but the second half is slow and the climax is a big letdown.  Pradeep Sarkar fails to narrate an interesting story as convincingly as he did with Parineeta. The intention might have been right but the execution has for sure gone haywire.

The music is average with Rang Daalein and Man Lafanga being the best of the lot.

Both Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone pitch in with good performances but can’t do much since the script lets them down. Piyush Mishra is first-rate. Kay Kay Menon does well in a brief role. All the actors playing Nandu’s friends are superb and leave a mark.

On the whole, Lafangey Parindey is one of those movies that start with a promise but end as a disappointment!

Rating – 2.5/5
