Many of us have dreamt of settling in United States of AMREEKA…haven’t we? But have you ever thought of taking Osama Bin Laden’s support to visit the USA? Well, that essentially forms the storyline of Tere Bin Laden… a good attempt at narrating a ‘hatke’ tale!
Ali Hasan [Ali Zafar] is an ambitious young news reporter from Pakistan who is desperate to migrate to the US in pursuit of the American dream. His repeated attempts to immigrate are shot down as his visa is always rejected. But when things couldn’t look worse he comes across an Osama bin Laden [Pradhuman Singh] look alike. Ali then hatches a scheme to produce a fake Osama video and sell it to news channels as a breakthrough scoop! Unfortunately there are serious ramifications as the White House gets involved and dispatches a overzealous secret agent on Ali’s trail.
Debutant director Abhishek Sharma deserves all the credit for taking up and offbeat story and gives it an interesting twist. Nobody would have ever thought that a movie on Osama Bin laden would make you laught…right? The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good and makes a valuable contribution to the movie – ‘Ullu Da Patha’ and ‘I Love Amreeka’ are both good peppy numbers.
Ali Zafar makes an impressive debut. He looks good and acts well. He is sure to get more movies after Tere Bin Laden. Osama Bin Laden, oops I mean Pradhuman Singh is ‘copy’ of Osama. He looks the same and performs his part brilliantly. Piyush Mishra is as always good in his role. Other characters Sugandha Garg [Zoya], Nikhil Ratnaparkhi [Gul – Ali’s partner], Chirag Vohra [Lateef], Rahul Singh [Qureshi], Barry John[Ted], all pinch in with good performances.
On the whole, Tere Bin Laden is an interesting take on an offbeat story. Yes, it is not polished as one would have liked but it’ not that bad either.
